President of Mongolia U. Khurelsukh Meets with the Leaders of the “Council of Mongolians Abroad” NGO

Today, President of Mongolia Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh received, at their request, members of the Board of the non-governmental organization “Council of Mongolians Abroad.”

At the outset of the meeting, the President noted that he had been informed of the successful staging of the Global Mongolians Festival, held in July this year in Brussels, Kingdom of Belgium, under the auspices of the President of Mongolia, and he expressed his gratitude to everyone involved in organizing the event.

Representatives of the organization expressed heartfelt thanks for holding, under the President’s auspices and for the first time abroad, the Naadam festival—a bulwark of national heritage and culture—emphasizing that the event played an important role in strengthening the unity of Mongolians living overseas, bringing government and citizens closer together, and promoting Mongolia internationally.

Participants noted that more than 100,000 Mongolians live in Europe, and that the Global Mongolians Festival organized on the continent attracted about 15,000 visitors from other countries.

The representatives of the “Council of Mongolians Abroad” NGO recalled that in 2021 they met with the President of Mongolia and proposed several specific initiatives, including organizing a unified convention of Mongolians abroad under the President’s auspices, implementing a unified curriculum for Mongolian schools overseas, and holding the Global Mongolians Festival in rotation across four continents. Chair S. Tserendemberel briefly reported that these proposals are now all being successfully implemented, and expressed gratitude on behalf of Mongolians living abroad.

During the meeting, the sides also exchanged views on protecting the rights and interests of 300,000 Mongolian citizens living overseas; increasing opportunities for them to return and resettle in Mongolia and to invest; harnessing the resources and potential of overseas Mongolians to expand Mongolia’s foreign trade; and strengthening Mongolian-language (mother-tongue) education for children growing up abroad.

President U. Khurelsukh asked that his warm greetings be conveyed to Mongolian citizens living overseas and expressed his readiness to support these efforts.
